Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine, a Philadelphia native was born and raised in the city. Her mother Pam is a former vocalist for the backup band of Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, older, her father was offered a position as a curator at City's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family was able to move into the historical landmark. She graduated in 2005 of Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was the vocal music instructor. Sullivan started singing as a contralto in the children's choir, then a few years later in the adult choir. His exposure to secular music was at first limited "I was doing solos in church and someone wanted me to join an evangelical label when I had turned eleven, however I wasn't ready to do that," she recalls. After that, McDonald's held a contest that was open to children living in cities. I was allowed to sing "Accept what God allows" on The show Showtime At the Apollo. And the people were very enthusiastic. At the age 13 she sang along in a duet with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday. Sullivan was 15 when she began her career with Jive Records. Sullivan was initially signed by Jive Records when she was fifteen. She recorded an entire album, but the album never saw release. Sullivan was eventually removed from the label. There was a close relationship with Missy Elliott she produced several tracks for her debut project, including the buzz single "Backstabbers" which was produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
